Differently fr om other ship the Flute (or Fleuta or Fluyt or Fleute ) was not classified according number of guns but ,being mainly trading vessels, were classified according tons of her cargo . At that time there was high taxation through Oresund strait according ship width of main deck. So clever Dutch “invented“ a vessel with high cargo capacity and short width so that ship section assumed shape of the Fluyt Glass ! That’s why this name
The steering device was traditional whipstaff and in the model is functioning ; actually the “wheel” was introduced on the ships the century aier .
The bow looks like the beautiful galleon or vessel of the era and this ship is a kind of Hybrid Galleon . Length 110 i (45 mt .ca) width 23 i ,170 tons
Purposely the guns on stern castle are bit bigger in scale to highlight how narrow wh ere on deck these ships.
Available drawings were quite poor for a detailed model so plans were integrated with a deep study and sketch made for ship “Prins Willem” where a lot of details were copied
